Around Rs 8 billion collected in PM Disaster Relief Fund

Kathmandu: Financial assistance for the people affected by the devastating flash flood in the Bhotekoshi and Trishuli river systems on August 26 has been increasing.

Prime Minister Balendra Shah addressed the House of Representatives today, saying that the Government of Nepal is raising financial aid for flood victims through the Prime Minister’s Disaster Rescue and Relief Fund, and that the support for this is increasing.

According to him, by Wednesday, seven billion 885 million seven thousand two hundred and seventeen rupees has been deposited in the relief fund.

Out of this, just yesterday, Rs 1 billion was released from the fund to the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Authority.

From that amount, Rs 67 million 500 thousand has already been distributed to 15 flood-affected municipalities in Rasuwa, Nuwakot, Dhading, Gorkha, and Tanahun. The fund currently has Rs 6 billion 885 million 7,217 in balance, and an additional USD 6 million 141 thousand 702 has been deposited.
