China provides Emergency Assistance to Nepal following devastating Bhotekoshi floods

Kathmandu: China has provided a package of emergency assistance to Nepal in the wake of devastating mudslides and floods that have affected areas along the Nepal-China border, the Chinese Embassy in Kathmandu said.

According to the Embassy, China has so far provided 50 tons of relief supplies and 2 million US dollars in cash assistance to support Nepal’s emergency response and relief efforts.

In addition, the Red Cross Society of China has also provided 200,000 US dollars in emergency assistance.

China has also sent two teams of tunnel rescue experts to assist in search and rescue operations in the disaster-affected areas.

The Chinese side has also provided images, satellite data and hydrological data of the disaster-hit areas to support rescue, assessment and relief operations, the Embassy said. China is making every effort to search for people who remain unaccounted for following the disaster, according to the embassy.

The Chinese side is also maintaining close communication with foreign embassies in China to verify the number and identities of missing persons and to properly handle follow-up matters.

The assistance comes as search, rescue and recovery operations continue following severe mudslides and flooding that have caused heavy casualties and left many people missing in Nepal and neighbouring areas of China.
