Bhotekoshi flash floods: 903 killed, more than 4,300 still missing

Kathmandu: The death toll from the devastating Bhotekoshi flash floods has risen to 903, according to the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Authority.

The floods struck Rasuwa on August 26 and affected several districts, including Rasuwa, Nuwakot, Dhading, Gorkha, Nawalparasi East and West, Tanahun and Chitwan.

The authority says 267 people have been injured, while 4,347 people are still missing. More than 20,800 security personnel from the Nepal Police, Nepali Army and Armed Police Force are involved in search and rescue operations.

So far, 10,459 people trapped by floods and landslides have been rescued.

The Nepali Army has rescued 3,344 Nepali citizens and 252 foreign nationals by helicopter. A total of 411 helicopter sorties have been carried out so far.

Meanwhile, the government has provided 10 million rupees each to Rasuwa and Nuwakot districts, and five million rupees to Dhading for relief operations.

A further 67.5 million rupees has been made available to 15 affected local governments. The authorities are continuing to send food, non-food items, medicines and other health supplies to the affected areas.
