Bhotekoshi flash flood: 289 foreign tourists rescued so far

Kathmandu: A total of 289 foreign tourists missing since the August 26 Bhotekoshi flash floods have been rescued so far.

According to acting chief of the Nepal Tourism Board, Hikmat Singh Ayer, out of missing foreign tourists from different countries heading towards Gosainkunda and Kailash Mansarovar, 289 has been rescued. He mentioned that 180 tourists from India, 89 from China, four from Malta, two from Italy, one each from Bulgaria and Portugal, two from Russia, one from Switzerland, two each from Turkey and the US have been rescued so far. In addition, 591 more tourists from different countries are still out of contact, added Ayer.

The Ministry of Culture, Tourism and Civil Aviation, Nepal Tourism Board, Tourist Police and other bodies working in tourism sector have accelerated search and rescue operation in the flood-hit areas.

The NTB underlined that all possible efforts are underway to bring injured and stranded people to safer places. Meanwhile, the NTB also urged tourists to travel only after taking information about road and weather condition as Prithvi highway has been completely blocked at Krishnabhir.

It also requested all concerned to dial toll-free number 1234, hotline number 1144 and tourist police mobile number 98512-89445 for any information or required support.
