Foreign Ministry forms emergency response team

Kathmandu: The Ministry for Foreign Affairs has formed an Emergency Response Team (ERT) for search, rescue and consular assistance for foreign nationals in view of the recent flash floods in Rasuwa district, which has resulted in massive loss of life, damage to infrastructure, and reports of missing persons including foreign nationals.

Issuing a notice today, the Ministry stated that the ERT, formed with immediate effect, will serve as the central coordinating body within the Ministry to facilitate search, rescue, information verification and consular assistance in respect of foreign nationals affected by, missing in, or otherwise connected to the flood incident.

The ERT, according to the Ministry, will facilitate gathering necessary information regarding foreign nationals, coordinating with relevant agencies, and providing necessary information to families and diplomatic missions.

The Ministry has requested concerned diplomatic missions, international organizations, families of missing persons, and members of the public to contact the given hotline and email for any information regarding foreign nationals affected by or missing in connection with the Rasuwa flash flood.

For this, one can contact the emergency hotline/WhatsApp at +977–9744441227 and +977–9744441228.

The second number can be reached from 7:00 am to 10:00 pm, according to the ministry. Similarly, information can also be sent via email to emergency@mofa.gov.np.

The ministry appeals to all concerned to refrain from spreading unverified disaster-related information and to rely on official sources for updates about the incident.
