Bhotekoshi-Trishuli Flash Flood: IFRC releases emergency funds

Kathmandu: The International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies (IFRC) is releasing nearly 1 million CHF (equivalent to Rs 189,545,000) in emergency funding to support the Nepal Red Cross Society’s (NRCS) response to severe flash flooding in Nepal.

Issuing a press statement, the IFRC said the funding, provided through the IFRC’s Disaster Response Emergency Fund (DREF), will help the NRCS respond to urgent needs while teams assess the scale of the destruction and identify communities requiring assistance.

“The priority now is to reach affected communities and get assistance to people who have lost their homes, suffered injuries or have been cut off,” read the statement by the IFRC.

The IFRC stated that the organization was closely monitoring the situation and has expressed readiness to provide additional support if needs increase.

Initial assistance by the NRCS includes distributing drinking water and emergency supplies including tarpaulins, blankets, sleeping mats, first aid kits, stretchers and body bags.

The IFRC is supporting the NRCS with emergency funding, operational coordination and technical support, while regional and global teams remain on standby to provide additional capacity and international assistance if required. RSS
