Government prioritises rescue, treatment and relief efforts for Rasuwa flood victims

Rasuwa: The government has decided to prioritise immediate rescue, medical treatment and relief for people affected by the severe floods in Rasuwagadhi and downstream areas of the Bhotekoshi River in Rasuwa.

Government Spokesperson and Minister for Education and Sports Sasmit Pokharel said the Cabinet has directed concerned agencies to provide free medical treatment to those injured and take immediate steps to reopen blocked roads.

The government has also instructed concerned ministries to restore disrupted telecommunications and electricity services as soon as possible and arrange financial resources for the reconstruction of damaged public infrastructure.

Minister Pokharel said China and India have expressed their commitment to support Nepal’s rescue and relief efforts. The government has also decided to provide financial assistance to families of those who died in the floods, in accordance with existing laws.

The Cabinet has further decided to declare local levels in the flood-affected districts as disaster-affected areas for three months.
