Nepal Consulate in Jeddah holds awareness programme for migrant workers

Kathmandu, Aug 22: The Consulate General of Nepal in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia, has conducted an awareness and interaction programme aimed at Nepali migrant workers and members of the Nepali community residing in Al-Khumrah.

The programme focused on providing migrant workers with practical information about Saudi Arabia’s labour laws, employment contracts, and workers’ rights and responsibilities, according to Deputy Consul General Yagya Raj Poudyal.

Participants were also briefed on essential information they need while living and working in Saudi Arabia, including the use of digital platforms and online government services.

Around 100 people attended the programme, including Consul General Paras Pundit, representatives of the Non-Resident Nepali Association, local social organisations and Nepali migrant workers.

The Consulate also informed participants about Nepal’s Social Security Fund (SSF) scheme for workers in foreign employment, including the procedures for accessing the scheme and its long-term benefits for workers and their families.

Officials further highlighted the Consulate’s social media platforms, including Facebook, TikTok and WhatsApp, established to facilitate faster and more effective communication with the Nepali community.

During the interaction, migrant workers shared their workplace experiences, concerns and queries, particularly regarding issues encountered in their daily lives and employment.

The Consulate also provided information about its official services, including passport-related services and consular assistance. Participants were informed that the Consulate’s official WhatsApp service can be used to register complaints and seek assistance.

The programme was organised as part of the Consulate’s efforts to enhance awareness among Nepali migrant workers and strengthen access to information and consular services.
