11,000 government employees face action in four months

Kathmandu: The National Vigilance Centre (NVC) under the Office of the Prime Minister and Council of Ministers has taken action against more than 11,000 government employees over disciplinary violations in the past four months.

NVC Joint Secretary and Spokesperson Narayan Prasad Bhatta said efforts to strengthen discipline in government offices and address public complaints have intensified since the formation of the government led by Prime Minister Balendra Shah.

According to the NVC, 1,298 complaints related to government offices and employees were registered between Chaitra (March 15–April 13) and Shrawan (July 17–August 13). Of these, 1,114 complaints, or 85.82 percent, have been resolved.

The resolution rate is 11.72 percentage points higher than the corresponding period last year. Between Chaitra 2081 and Shrawan 2082, the Centre had registered 556 complaints and resolved 412, or 74.10 percent.

The government’s 100-point administrative reform agenda included a provision to ensure strict implementation of the employee code of conduct. In line with this, the NVC has tightened and expanded its office monitoring and disciplinary action procedures.

The Centre monitored 924 government offices between Chaitra and Shrawan. During the monitoring, 11,004 employees were found to have violated workplace rules.

Of them, 10,268 were found violating the code of conduct and punctuality requirements, 645 were penalised for failing to wear the prescribed uniform, and 91 were found absent from their designated workplaces.

The NVC has directed the concerned authorities to take action against all employees found violating disciplinary rules in accordance with prevailing laws.
