Stress on restructuring of telecommunications service, public media

Kathmandu: The Ministry of Information and Communications has decided to advance restructuring of telecommunications services, public media institutions and digital good governance with effective enforcement of the budget.

The Ministry took a decision in this regard during an annual progress review of 2082/83 and the meeting of the ministry-level development resolution committee.

Addressing the review meeting, Minister for Information and Communications, Dr Bikram Timilsina, directed all agencies under the Ministry to carry out their work effectively so that they would achieve the annual target. He shared that the government was committed to ensuring remarkable reform in the telecommunication sector in the current fiscal year.

Special improvement in quality and access to telephone and internet service is aimed by the government, so concrete results must be shown in 4G and 5G services. The subordinate agencies could learn from the past mistakes and improve performance, according to him.

In the meeting, a member of the National Planning Commission, Dr Sudan Jha, suggested to the Ministry that it prioritise expansion of 5G in urban areas and 4G in rural areas. He expressed worry that the Ministry failed to ensure spending more than the national average.

On the occasion, General Manager at RSS, Sandeep Rai, said RSS was in need of making its employee management further effective. RSS was at work to update its service charge directive. Chiefs of other agencies under the Ministry presented the performances and plans of the respective offices.
