Update: Water level recedes in Gaurighat of Bagmati river

Kathmandu: The water level of the Bagmati River in the Gaurighat Water Level Measurement Centre in Kathmandu has decreased from the alert level late this evening, the Department of Hydrology and Meteorology said.

With this, the level of risk has now decreased in the area. Earlier today, the Department had urged the residents on the riverbank and inundation-prone areas of the Bagmati River to remain on high alert until Monday morning after the water level crossed the alert mark.

The water level in the Bagmati River in the Gaurighat area reached 2.41 metres this afternoon, as the water level above 2.1 metres is considered the alert level.

Flood expert Saraswati Bista in the Department said there is nothing to panic about since the water level has decreased and it is now below the alert level.

However, the Department has asked the residents to apply special precautions and avoid non-essential travel and to shift to a safe zone if needed.
