Monsoon Activity Intensifies, Heavy Rain Forecast in Several Provinces

Kathmandu, July 19: Monsoon activity has intensified across Nepal, with the Meteorological Forecasting Division warning of heavy to very heavy rainfall in several parts of the country.

According to the Division, the monsoon low-pressure system is currently positioned slightly above average over the western Tarai region and near average in the east.

The weather remains generally cloudy nationwide, with light to moderate rainfall reported in parts of Koshi, Bagmati, Gandaki, and Lumbini provinces, as well as isolated areas of Karnali Province.

The Division has forecast mostly cloudy conditions across the country this afternoon, with chances of moderate rainfall accompanied by thunder and lightning in many areas of the Mountain, Hill, and Tarai regions. Snowfall is also likely in some high-altitude areas.

Heavy to very heavy rainfall is expected in parts of the hilly and Tarai areas of Koshi, Lumbini, and Sudurpaschim provinces, while some areas of Bagmati and Gandaki provinces, along with isolated parts of Madhesh, may also receive heavy rainfall.

The Division has predicted the possibility of extremely heavy rainfall in some hilly and Tarai areas of Koshi and Sudurpaschim provinces. It has urged people in vulnerable areas to remain cautious.

Weather conditions are expected to remain mostly cloudy tonight, with chances of moderate rain and snowfall accompanied by thunder and lightning in some mountainous areas.

The Division has also forecast heavy to very heavy rainfall in parts of Koshi, Gandaki, Lumbini, and Sudurpaschim provinces, and heavy rainfall in some areas of Madhesh and Bagmati provinces.

Meanwhile, the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Authority (NDRRMA) has advised the public to remain alert, citing increased risks of flash floods, landslides, inundation, debris flow, and soil erosion due to continuous rainfall.
