House of Representatives Session: MPs raise alarms over Prime Minister’s remarks, budget debates, and urgent contemporary issues
June 16, Kathmandu: During today’s House of Representatives session, opposition lawmakers have protested against recent border-related statements made by Prime Minister Balendra Shah, demanding an official clarification.
Standing at the beginning of the meeting, opposition MPs insisted that the Prime Minister’s remarks must either be corrected or expunged from the parliamentary record. They further emphasized the need for urgent diplomatic efforts to address ongoing challenges, including harassment by Indian security forces in Nepali territories like Susta, as well as India’s restrictions on Nepali tea exports.
Lawmakers also levelled criticism at Finance Minister Dr. Swarnim Wagle, accusing him of issuing threats to cover up procedural errors. They demanded a thorough investigation into tax evasion cases and called for the immediate public release of the probe report concerning Home Minister Sudhan Gurung.
During the zero hour, MPs drew the government’s attention to the imminent arrival of the monsoon. They demanded that the government inform the House about its weather forecasting accuracy, disaster preparedness, and planned relief and rescue operations.
Additionally, lawmakers raised serious concerns over the rising number of school and college students falling into hard drug addiction, urging immediate state intervention. Meanwhile, departmental discussions on various allocation headings under the Appropriation Bill, 2026, continue in the House.
