Westerly and local winds influencing weather; hot days and heat wave expected in parts of Nepal

Kathmandu, May 25 — Nepal is currently under the influence of westerly and local winds along with a low-pressure system near the eastern region of the country, according to the Meteorological Forecasting Division.

The Division said generally cloudy conditions are prevailing in the Himalayan and hilly regions of Koshi, Bagmati and Gandaki provinces, as well as in the Himalayan areas of Karnali and Sudurpaschim provinces. Hilly regions of Bagmati, Gandaki and Lumbini provinces, along with Madhesh Province, are partly cloudy, while most Tarai areas are experiencing mainly fair weather.

At present, moderate rainfall with thunder and lightning has been recorded at a few locations in Koshi and Gandaki provinces, while light rainfall has occurred in one or two places in Bagmati Province.

For this afternoon, generally cloudy conditions are expected in Koshi, Bagmati and Gandaki provinces. The hilly and Himalayan regions of other provinces, including Madhesh, are likely to remain partly cloudy, while the remaining Tarai areas will stay mainly fair. The Division has also forecast moderate rain and snowfall with thunder and lightning at some places across Koshi, Bagmati and Gandaki provinces, and at a few locations in the hilly and Himalayan regions of Lumbini, Karnali and Sudurpaschim provinces.

Meteorologists have further warned of hot weather in the hilly areas of Sudurpaschim and Lumbini provinces, while heat wave conditions are likely in parts of the Tarai region.

Tonight, generally cloudy to partly cloudy conditions are expected across several provinces, with chances of moderate rain and snowfall in some hilly and Himalayan areas, the Division added.
