Gandaki Province Begins Pre-Budget Discussions for FY 2083/84

Gandaki, May 12: The Gandaki Province government has started pre-budget discussions for the upcoming fiscal year 2083/84, focusing on budget priorities and policy direction.

As per constitutional provision, the province is required to present its annual budget on Asar 1 of the Nepali calendar. Officials said discussions are currently centred on setting principles and priorities for the new budget.

Minister for Economic Affairs Jit Bahadur Sherchan said the government will present the budget principles and programmes in the Provincial Assembly before finalising the annual budget. He added that suggestions from local levels will be incorporated into the budget formulation process.

According to him, preparations are underway to include large-scale projects aimed at supporting the province’s development and long-term economic growth, while ensuring implementation feasibility is also considered.

Chief of the Budget Division at the Ministry, Dilli Ram Rijal, said pre-budget consultations have been completed in all districts except Kaski. He added that discussions are also being held with local governments, the private sector, and other stakeholders, with coordination among thematic ministries.

Officials indicated that the upcoming budget size is likely to see a slight reduction compared to the previous year. Last year, Gandaki Province announced a budget of Rs 31.98 billion.

The provincial government has been facing challenges in increasing internal revenue collection, which has affected overall budget planning and resource management.
