Kalaiya Market Inspection: Two Shops Fined for Violations
Bara, May 12: Authorities carried out a surprise monitoring of seven business outlets in Kalaiya on Monday, taking action against two confectionery shops for violating consumer protection rules.
The inspection was conducted under the leadership of the Joint Market Monitoring Committee Chairperson and Assistant Chief District Officer Chhabi Raman Bhattarai.
During the inspection, substandard food items were found at Ma Annapurna Sweets and Bakery along Bariyarpur Road. The team also found that the shop had not maintained a price list. The goods were disposed of on the spot, and the outlet was fined Rs 50,000 under Section 39 (d) of the Consumer Protection Act, 2075, according to Bhattarai.
Similarly, Kesar Sweets in Kalaiya-5 was fined Rs 20,000 after expired ice cream and momos were discovered.
Expired cooking oil found at Roshan Babu General Store on Bariyarpur Road was also destroyed by the monitoring team.
In addition, Nepal Dairy Industry at Kalaiya-4, along with a nearby meat shop and Satya Hotel, have been instructed to appear before the District Administration Office, Bara, within three days with the required documents.
Durga Khaja Ghar was directed to obtain a license from the Office of Standards and Metrology, Birgunj, after it was found using an unregistered weighing machine. Naval Sekuwa was also warned for failing to maintain a price list.
The monitoring team included administrative officials, representatives from security agencies, and consumer rights bodies.
