Landslide Blocks Beni–Jomsom Road, Vehicles Stranded

Myagdi, May 12: The Beni–Jomsom–Korala road section has been blocked after a landslide struck the Mahabhir area of Annapurna Rural Municipality-7 in Myagdi district on Tuesday morning.

The obstruction has halted traffic along the 76-kilometre Beni–Jomsom stretch, a key roadway connecting Mustang district with the national highway network. Vehicles travelling from Beni towards Mustang and from Jomsom towards Beni have been stranded midway following the incident.

The disruption has caused difficulties for passengers, including tourists and pilgrims heading to Mustang and the revered Muktinath Temple.

According to Information Officer at the District Police Office Myagdi, Sagar Timilsina, efforts are underway to reopen the road using heavy equipment mobilised by the Department of Roads.

The Mahabhir section is considered highly vulnerable to landslides and rockfalls due to its steep terrain. During the rainy season, debris frequently accumulates on the road, causing repeated disruptions to vehicular movement.
