Nepali Embassy in Abu Dhabi holds interaction with migrant workers, urges use of online consular services

Kathmandu/Abu Dhabi, May 9: The Embassy of Nepal in Abu Dhabi organized an interaction program with Nepali migrant workers on Friday, focusing on labor rights, workplace safety, and consular services for Nepalis living and working in the United Arab Emirates.

The program saw participation from Nepali workers employed in various companies across the Abu Dhabi emirate, according to the embassy.

During the event, Labour Attaché Pankaj Labh Karn conducted an orientation on labor awareness, informing workers about their rights, security, company regulations, labor permit renewal, the Social Security Fund, and facilities provided by the Government of Nepal for migrant workers.

He also urged workers to safely keep important documents such as passports, Emirates IDs, and labor cards, while warning them against cybercrime, financial fraud, and misuse of personal information.

Karn encouraged workers to use the online portal operated by Nepal’s Department of Consular Services for services related to search and rescue, repatriation, death management, compensation, and worker assistance, saying the system makes the process “easier, organized, and faster.”

Workers were also advised not to abscond from their companies and to remain in regular contact with both the embassy and the UAE’s Ministry of Human Resources and Emiratisation (MOHRE) during emergencies.

Third Secretary Bimlesh Kumar Mishra addressed queries related to passports and consular services.

Participants welcomed the initiative and suggested that such interaction programs be held regularly, at least once a month. Workers also raised concerns over low wages and called for the establishment of minimum salary standards and stronger protection of Nepali migrant workers’ labor, skills, and contributions abroad.

The program also included a practical first aid awareness session for members of the Nepali community.
