Lo-Ghekar Damodarkunda Rural Municipality Goes Green with Solar Energy Initiative

Mustang, May 10 — Lo-Ghekar Damodarkunda Rural Municipality in Mustang has launched a solar-powered green energy system, marking a significant step toward clean energy adoption and climate resilience in the Himalayan region.

With the new initiative, the rural municipality aims to promote sustainable development, reduce environmental risks, and cut long-term energy costs. Local authorities have stated that the project is designed to ensure a cleaner and healthier environment for residents while supporting climate change adaptation efforts.

Following the implementation of the solar system, the rural municipality is preparing to declare itself a “Green Energy Rural Municipality.”

Officials expressed confidence that the use of solar energy will help reduce carbon emissions and protect the region’s fragile ecosystem, biodiversity, and natural landscape from the impacts of pollution and climate change.

Chairperson of the rural municipality Lopsang Chomphel Bista said the initiative will bring positive changes for residents by strengthening sustainable infrastructure and improving service delivery.

He added that all administrative offices under the municipality will now operate using solar energy for daily electrical needs, improving reliability and efficiency.

As part of the project, the local government has installed solar panels, batteries, and other essential equipment to support energy generation and distribution.

The rural municipality also plans to extend the solar-powered system to all five ward offices and health facilities across the region.

Officials said the initiative aligns with Nepal’s Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and national efforts to expand clean and renewable energy in environmentally sensitive areas.
