1,000 to run in Jumla-Rara Ultra Marathon

Jumla: The entire preparations for the 7th Edition of Jumla-Rara Marathon have been completed, the organiser said. The Karnali Sports Club is scheduled to organise the event on May 9.

Chairman of Club Saroj Shahi said that the marathon event is aimed at spreading the fame of Karnali Province through sports and promoting the trekking route from Khalanga in Jumla to Rara Lake in Mugu district.

According to Shahi, more than 1,000 athletes have confirmed their participation in the event. He said 135 athletes have registered their name of the participation in the 54 kms of Jumla-Rara Ultra Marathon.

Likewise, 650 people will join the race for five kilometres and 200 others for 10 kilometres.

Shahi stated that the athletes from India, France, the USA, the UK, the Netherlands and Italy would participate in the marathon event.

So far, athletes from India and France have arrived in Jumla, the point from where the marathon will begin.

Chief District Officer of Jumla, Dipak Kumar Paudel, stated that the ultra marathon is expected to promote adventure tourism in the province. RSS
