On Air Station:

Vehicular movement halted on BP Highway after rain

Kavrepalanchowk: Vehicular movement along the BP Highway has been closed since this afternoon due to security concerns in the aftermath of rain.

The District Police Office, Dhulikhel, decided to shut the highway section from Katunje of Namobuddha to Mangaltar of Roshi starting at 3:30 pm.

Deputy Superintendent of Police Rabin Bista, the office’s information officer, said the rains caused significant flooding in the Roshi River, and movement was prohibited to prevent any untoward incidents. The public has been urged to check updates on highway conditions before travelling via this route.

Travel along the highway has been discouraged until further notice. Previous floods and landslides in the area had swept away 18 kilometres of roadway in the Roshi and Nepalthok areas of Sindhuli. A temporary diversion was constructed to restore transport services.

The highway was also damaged over a stretch of 4 kilometres by rainfall in the first week of April. Following the obstruction, vehicles en route to their destinations have been halted at Kavrebhanjyang in Dhulikhel and Nepalthok in Sindhuli.

Unprecedented rainfall in late September 2024 had severely damaged the Chaukidanda–Nepalthok route along the Highway.

Since then, vehicles have been operating via temporarily constructed roads and diversions. Permanent restoration work on the roadway is presently underway, according to the Division Office, Bhaktapur.
