Dismantling of illegal structures in Gairigaun

Kathmandu: The squatter settlements in Gairigaun, located in Kathmandu Metropolitan City-9, have been dismantled.

A joint team of Nepal Police, Armed Police Force and Kathmandu Metropolitan Police has been mobilised to remove the settlements and demolish the structures from this afternoon. According to the government’s decision, the structures built on the public land along the Bagmati River are being dismantled.

Spokesperson of the District Police Range, Kathmandu, SP Pawan Kumar Bhattarai, said that the work of removing the temporary and permanent structures is currently underway with a significant presence of security personnel.

After the settlement in the Thapathali area was evacuated in the morning, the demolition work is currently underway in the Gairigaun area.

Although security personnel were kept on high alert to prevent possible obstacles, there have been no obstructions or clashes so far, and the task is being carried out peacefully, police said.
