World observes International Day of Multilateralism and Diplomacy for Peace
Kathmandu, April 24: The International Day of Multilateralism and Diplomacy for Peace is being observed worldwide today, reaffirming global commitment to peaceful conflict resolution through dialogue and cooperation among nations.
The day highlights the importance of the UN Charter and its principles, which emphasize resolving international disputes through peaceful means and promoting collective decision-making.
According to the United Nations, multilateralism forms a core part of its foundation. The UN Charter not only defines the structure and functioning of the organization but also serves as a key pillar of the modern international system.
World leaders had reaffirmed their commitment to multilateralism and global peace and security during the UN General Debate in 2018. This commitment was further strengthened during a high-level dialogue held on renewing support for multilateralism on October 31, 2018.
The day is marked to underline the continued relevance of diplomacy and collective action in addressing global challenges and maintaining international peace.
