Education Minister Pokharel, UK Ambassador Fenn discuss cooperation in education

April 15, Kathmandu: Minister for Education, Science and Technology, Sasmit Pokharel, held a courtesy meeting with the United Kingdom’s Ambassador to Nepal, Rob Fenn, on Wednesday.

The meeting, held at the ministry in Singha Durbar, focused on cooperation in Nepal’s education and sports sectors. Discussions also covered the historic bilateral relations between Nepal and the UK, along with ongoing collaboration and mutual interests.

Both sides discussed continuing support from the UK government in Nepal’s education sector. They also exchanged views on potential cooperation for the autism schools the Government of Nepal plans to operate across all seven provinces, as well as on strengthening teachers’ professional capacity.

Minister Pokharel, who also serves as the government spokesperson, expressed expectation of continued UK support in reforming the education sector and enhancing teachers’ capacity. He also conveyed confidence in cooperation for resource and human resource development for autism schools.

Ambassador Fenn reaffirmed the UK government’s willingness to continue its longstanding cooperation in Nepal’s education, sports, and other sectors.

The meeting also reached an understanding to further deepen bilateral ties and explore collaboration in teacher capacity development and the potential of transnational education in Nepal.
