Nepal marks first International Wellness Day in San Francisco

Kathmandu, April 14: The Consulate General of Nepal in San Francisco organized a special event to mark the first International Wellness Day on Sunday .
The programme was held at a Nepali community center in Richmond, in collaboration with the Nepali Association of Northern California (NANC) and Jeevan Vigyan USA. It followed a recent decision by the United Nations General Assembly to observe April 15 each year as International Wellness Day, based on Nepal’s initiative.
Richmond Mayor Eduardo Martinez attended as chief guest, while Nepali-origin council member Dilli Bhattarai was the special guest. The event saw participation from over 100 attendees, including community leaders, professionals and members of the Nepali diaspora.
The programme featured speeches, expert presentations and sessions on yoga, meditation and breathing practices.
Speaking at the event, Consul General Laxmi Khanal said Nepal has long been a center for yoga and natural healing traditions. He highlighted Nepal’s potential to develop as a global wellness hub and noted the government’s plan to observe 2027 as Nepal Wellness Year.
During the event, the mayor also announced April 14 as “Nepal Day” in Richmond, recognizing the contribution of the Nepali community.
