Shah led task force meeting today to pepare constitutional amendment discussion paper

April 8, Kathmandu: A task force formed to prepare a discussion paper on constitutional amendments is set to hold its first meeting today at 3:00 PM at the Office of the Prime Minister and Council of Ministers.

The task force, constituted by a Cabinet decision, is coordinated by the Prime Minister’s Chief Political Advisor, Asim Shah.

Members include Mohan Acharya from the Rastriya Swatantra Party; Dr Bhishmanath Adhikari, a former Constituent Assembly member representing CPN-UML; Dev Prasad Gurung, former Law Minister and Constituent Assembly member from CPN (Maoist Centre); Gyanendra Shahi, parliamentary party leader of the Rastriya Prajatantra Party; and Manoj Bhatt, General Secretary of Rastriya Janamorcha.

Major parties, including Nepali Congress, Janata Samajbadi Party Nepal, Loktantrik Samajbadi Party Nepal, and the Shram Sanskriti Party, are yet to nominate their representatives, with internal discussions ongoing. Their nominees are expected to be finalised soon.

Also serving on the task force are Secretary Pushkar Sapkota from the Office of the Prime Minister and Council of Ministers and Indira Dahal, Secretary at the Nepal Law Commission. Liladhar Subedi, Chief of the Law and Decisions Implementation Division at the Prime Minister’s Office, has been appointed as the Member Secretary.

The task force is mandated to draft a comprehensive discussion paper to facilitate dialogue on possible amendments to the Constitution.
