17th session of Bagmati Province Assembly begins

Makawanpur: The 17th session of the Bagmati Province Assembly commenced on Tuesday.

In the maiden meeting of the session convened in Hetauda, Deputy Speaker Apsara Chapagain read out a letter from the Bagmati Province Chief Deepak Prasad Devkota regarding the convening of the session.

Deputy Speaker Chapagain also informed lawmakers about the resignation of Speaker Bhuwan Kumar Pathak, along with the resignation of the six provincial assembly members. The Deputy Speaker further shared that today’s maiden meeting approved the nomination of four members to preside over the sessions in the absence of both the Speaker and the Deputy Speaker.

The nominated members are Suna Pariyar, Sushma Bhujel Neupane, Hari Prasad Sapkota and Laxmi Ghimire. Likewise, addressing during the Special Hour in the session, Province’s Chief Minister Indra Bahadur Baniya pledged to work in coordination and cooperation with the federal government to promote good governance in the Province.

He said the provincial government will continue implementing multi-year development plans across various districts of the Province in a phased manner. The Bagmati Province Assembly will meet next at 11:00 AM on April 8.
