Parliament session begins Thursday with new mandate

Kathmandu: The first session of the House of Representatives following the recent elections will begin on Thursday, carrying a new political mandate.

President Ram Chandra Paudel has called a joint session of both houses of the Federal Parliament at 2 pm, on the recommendation of the Council of Ministers, in line with constitutional provisions.

The House of Representatives meeting will be held at the multipurpose hall of the under-construction Federal Parliament Building in Singha Durbar, while the National Assembly will meet at the Federal Secretariat.

This session comes after the Rastriya Swatantra Party secured a near two-thirds majority, giving it a strong mandate.

The election of the Speaker and Deputy Speaker will be the main agenda, as required within 15 days of the first meeting. An all-party meeting is being held to finalize the schedule and agenda.

The Federal Parliament Secretariat says all preparations, including security and logistics, have been completed. The session is also expected to take up key bills related to governance reforms.
