CIT Minister Dr Timilsina stresses on effectiveness of postal services
Kathmandu: Minister for Communications and Information Technology, Dr Bikram Timilsina, called for enhancing the effectiveness of the country’s postal services.

Minister Timilsina said so while affixing the first cancellation mark on three postage stamps depicting archaeological and historical heritages at the Department of Postal Service, Babarmahal, Kathmandu, today.
The stamps, issued under the Department’s philatelic programme, feature images of Java Dam (a very tiny ancient coin), Dhurkot Palace in Gulmi district and Narsingha Avatar dance (also known as Kartika Naach). Speaking at the programme, Minister Timilisina acknowledged the pivotal role of postage stamps in preserving national identity by promoting the country’s historical, religious and cultural heritages. He also highlighted the need to further strengthen postal services to make public services more accessible to citizens.
On the occasion, the newly appointed Minister directed the Department officials to present a work plan that aligns with the government’s newly unveiled 100-point roadmap. He also urged them to take ‘positive initiatives’ that foster public confidence.
Furthermore, he called for making postal services more effective, efficient and timely. He also instructed accelerating the concept of ‘Smart Postal Service’ in a bid to modernise the postal services and make it more relevant. He also emphasised the urgency to make all public services technology-friendly and to improve the efficiency of service delivery.
Echoing Minister Timilsina, Information Secretary Laxmi Kumari Basnet, noted that the postal stamps help in preserving and promoting the country’s archaeological and historical heritages.
Likewise, Manmaya Pangeni Bhattarai, Director General of the Department, stated that postage stamps play a significant role internationally. She apprised the Minister that the Department has been issuing stamps that showcase Nepal’s history, religion and culture.
On the occasion, Minister Timilsina also received a briefing on the Department’s ongoing activities.
