Bird flu confirmed in five poultry farms in Morang
Morang, March 25: Avian Influenza has been detected in five poultry farms in Morang, according to the Veterinary Laboratory in Biratnagar.
The infected farms include Dahal Agro Farm, Haleshi Mahadev Farm, Athiyabari Farm, A to Z Farm and Kamakhya Poultry Farm, located in different parts of the district.
Following confirmation of the disease, authorities have initiated procedures to cull infected chickens and destroy eggs, feed and other materials associated with the farms to prevent further spread.
Dr Kamal Giri, chief of the laboratory, said around 10 farmers have been visiting the lab daily with dead broiler and layer chickens for testing.
Since last July, the laboratory has tested 198 samples, of which 45 have returned positive for bird flu. Samples from other suspected cases have been sent to Kathmandu for further analysis.
