10,000 fingerlings released in Rupa Lake

Lekhnath (Kaski), March 17: A total of 10,000 fish fingerlings of various species have been released into Rupa Lake in Kaski.

The fingerlings were released by the Rupatal Fishery Cooperative on the occasion of its silver jubilee to promote income generation from the lake.

Chairperson of the cooperative, Ram Bahadur Thapa, said the initiative was taken to help conserve natural heritage while ensuring sustainable income for cooperative members.

Chief of the Begnas Fishery Research Station, Dr Mohammad Ikwal Hussein, said fish farming in Rupa Lake has been promoted in a way that protects the lake’s natural beauty while supporting the livelihoods of local cooperative members.

He added that lakes play an important role in human civilisation and in sustaining aquatic life, stressing that Rupa Lake should be preserved and handed over to future generations without harming its natural state.
