6,799 Disaster Incidents Reported in 11 Months; 464 People Dead
Kathmandu, March 15: A total of 6,799 disaster-related incidents have been reported across Nepal over the past 11 months, according to the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Authority (NDRRMA).
Data released by the authority shows that 464 people lost their lives during various disaster events, while 38 people remain missing and 1,814 others sustained injuries during the review period.
The incidents have affected 12,458 households across the country, causing significant damage to homes, property, and livelihoods in several communities.
Among the various types of disasters recorded, fire incidents were the most frequent. A total of 3,339 fire-related cases were reported during the period, resulting in the deaths of 98 people.
The NDRRMA data also shows that the country experienced 318 flood incidents and 590 landslides, along with 429 cases of heavy rainfall. In addition, 367 lightning strikes and 592 snakebite cases were reported during the same period. Authorities also recorded 246 wildfire incidents across different parts of the country.
Similarly, there were 292 windstorms and 488 incidents of wild animal attacks. The report also mentions 119 incidents of land subsidence.
Other disasters reported during the period include five avalanches, seven earthquakes, and two cases of boat capsizing.
The National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Authority has urged concerned authorities and local communities to strengthen disaster preparedness and response measures, noting that Nepal remains highly vulnerable to a range of natural hazards.
