No Immediate Evacuation Needed for Nepali Workers in War-Affected Gulf Countries: Foreign Minister

Kathmandu, March 11 – Nepal’s Minister for Foreign Affairs, Balananda Sharma, has stated that the current situation in West Asia does not require the immediate evacuation of Nepali workers from Gulf countries.

Speaking at a press conference at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs today, Minister Sharma said the intensity of the conflict is gradually decreasing, and there is no urgency to rescue Nepali citizens except for those stranded in transit. “According to information from our embassies, there is currently no situation that demands immediate evacuation,” he said. “However, evacuation operations continue for those in transit.”

The Minister added that the Nepal government is preparing to activate its ‘Emergency Rescue’ team and will be ready to evacuate citizens if the situation deteriorates.

Foreign Ministry Secretary Amrit Bahadur Rai confirmed that Nepali workers in the affected areas are largely safe. He reported that one Nepali worker in Dubai has died, and 15 were slightly injured during shelling; 14 of them have recovered and returned to work. The Ministry is maintaining daily contact with missions in the region to monitor the safety of Nepali citizens.

In Bahrain, around 2,600 people are taking shelter due to the conflict, including four Nepalis, the Ministry said. Secretary Rai emphasized the importance of reassuring Nepali citizens who have felt unsafe amid the ongoing conflict between Israel, the United States, and Iran, now in its 12th day.

Currently, Nepal has over 1.7 million workers employed across the Gulf countries, according to Ministry statistics.
