NC Secures Highest PR Votes in Karnali Province

Bheriganga (Surkhet), March 10 — The Nepali Congress has emerged as the leading party in the proportional representation (PR) vote count for the House of Representatives election held on March 5 in Karnali Province.

According to the Province Election Office Karnali, the final vote count under the proportional system was completed on Tuesday. The Nepali Congress secured the highest number of votes in the province, receiving 141,233. However, the party won only five seats under the first-past-the-post (FPTP) system.

The Rastriya Swatantra Party, which won just one seat under the FPTP category in the province, ranked second in the proportional vote tally with 133,749 votes.

Similarly, the Communist Party of Nepal (Unified Marxist–Leninist) secured the third position with 120,863 votes, while the Communist Party of Nepal came fourth with 107,101 votes.

Other parties also received a share of votes in the proportional category. The Rastriya Prajatantra Party garnered 15,755 votes, the Nepal Workers and Peasants Party received 5,130 votes, and the Shram Sanskriti Party secured 4,675 votes.

Meanwhile, 90 candidates lost their deposits in the province. According to Lal Bahadur Gurung, Chief of the Province Election Office, 139 candidates were in the race, including those representing political parties and independent candidates.
