Byas Municipality Earns Rs 1.45 Million from Recycled Waste Sales
Damauli, Tanahun, Feb 23 — Byas Municipality has generated Rs 1.45 million in revenue from the sale of recycled waste materials during the first seven months of the current fiscal year.
According to the municipality, a total of Rs 1,450,611 was earned between mid-July 2025 and mid-February 2026 through the sale of recyclable waste, including glass and other non-biodegradable materials.
Chief Administrative Officer Sukadev Lamsal said the income was generated after implementing a systematic waste segregation and collection process. “Mixing all wastes together creates management challenges. We have therefore arranged separate collection for biodegradable and non-biodegradable waste using different vehicles,” he explained.
The municipality has intensified efforts to address waste management issues by introducing household-level waste segregation. Biodegradable and non-biodegradable waste are collected separately, while recyclable materials such as glass, plastic and paper are further sorted and compressed using machines before being sold.
Mayor Baikuntha Neupane said segregation has been practiced since the beginning of waste collection services. He added that awareness programs have been conducted for households, ward offices and school administrations to promote proper waste separation practices.
The municipality also sells recyclable materials collected from its office premises, contributing to an increase in internal revenue.
Officials believe that the initiative has not only improved waste management but also strengthened the municipality’s internal resource base.
