APF bags National Women’s Football Championship title
Gaighat (Udayapur), Feb 21: The Armed Police Force Nepal (APF) has clinched the National Women’s Football Championship title, defeating Tribhuvan Army Club 2–1 in the final held at Tharuhat Stadium in Gaighat on Friday.
According to the All Nepal Football Association (ANFA), Geeta Rana and Renuka Nagarkoti scored one goal each to secure victory for APF, while Jennifer Rana netted the lone goal for the Army side.
With the win, APF received a cash prize of Rs 750,000 along with the trophy. Runner-up Tribhuvan Army Club was awarded Rs 500,000, ANFA General Secretary Kiran Rai informed.
Geeta Rana was named Player of the Match and received Rs 7,000. APF’s Rashmi Kumari Ghising emerged as the highest goal scorer of the tournament and was awarded Rs 50,000.
Meanwhile, Nepal Police was declared the best team of the tournament and received Rs 50,000 in prize money. APF goalkeeper Anjana Rana Magar was recognised as the best goalkeeper, while Army’s Deepa Shahi was adjudged the Most Valuable Player of the tournament. Both players were awarded Rs 50,000 each.
The championship, which began on February 13, featured 10 teams and was played in a knockout format. The tournament was organised by ANFA with financial assistance from FIFA and sponsorship from Rum Pum Instant Noodles Ltd..
