Shreedhi Hospital Doctor Arrested for Alleged Fake Tourist Rescue Scam
Kathmandu, Feb 8 — Nepal Police have arrested Dr Girwan Raj Timilsina of Lazimpat-based Shreedhi Hospital for his alleged involvement in a fake rescue operation targeting foreign tourists involved in trekking and mountaineering activities.
According to police, a team from the Central Investigation Bureau (CIB) apprehended Dr Timilsina on Sunday on charges of preparing fraudulent rescue documents to illegally claim insurance money. The alleged scheme involved collusion with Mountain Rescue Services, Everest Experiences and Assistance, and Nepal Charter Services.
CIB spokesperson and Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Shiva Kumar Shrestha said Dr Timilsina is accused of facilitating the scam by producing false medical and rescue records to support insurance claims.
Police have already arrested six individuals associated with the three companies involved in the case. SSP Shrestha added that further investigation is underway, including scrutiny of forged documents and other related activities linked to Dr Timilsina.
