Government Decides to Withdraw Social Media Bill from Parliament
Kathmandu, Feb 3: The interim government has approved the withdrawal of the Social Media Bill, 2081 BS, from the Federal Parliament.
Minister for Home Affairs Om Prakash Aryal said the decision was taken during a Cabinet meeting held on Tuesday. The Bill, formally titled the Bill Related to the Operation, Use and Regulation of Social Media, 2081, is set to be recalled from Parliament.
The proposed law was registered during the 17th session of the National Assembly and is currently under review by the National Assembly’s Legislation Management Committee.
Minister Aryal, who also serves as the government spokesperson, said the Cabinet meeting also endorsed an amendment to the Singha Durbar Complex Master Plan. The amendment allows for the construction of statues commemorating the Gen-Z movement within the premises of the under-construction Parliament Building at Singha Durbar.
