Army to Lead Integrated Security Deployment for HoR Elections from Wednesday
Kathmandu, Feb 3: Security agencies will begin coordinated deployment from Wednesday to ensure a free, fair and fear-free environment for the upcoming House of Representatives (HoR) elections.
According to the government-approved HoR Member Election Integrated Security Plan, 2082, all four security bodies—Nepal Army, Nepal Police, Armed Police Force Nepal and the National Investigation Department—will be mobilised in an integrated manner under the coordination of the Nepal Army.
With the March 5 parliamentary elections just a month away, security arrangements are being stepped up nationwide. In addition to regular forces, specially recruited ‘election police’ will also be deployed to strengthen poll security.
Under the security plan, Nepal Police and election police will be responsible for the inner security ring at polling centres. The Armed Police Force will handle the second security layer in coordination with the Nepal Army and Nepal Police, while the Nepal Army will oversee the outer security perimeter.
The Nepal Army will be deployed across all 165 electoral constituencies from Wednesday, assuming key security responsibilities related to the elections, the Army said.
The mobilisation of the Nepal Army for election security was approved by President Ramchandra Paudel on November 27, 2025, following a recommendation from the Prime Minister and a decision of the Council of Ministers.
