EC Drops 76 Names from PR List as HoR Elections Near
Kathmandu, Feb 3
With just 30 days remaining for the House of Representatives (HoR) elections scheduled for March 5, the Election Commission (EC) has removed 76 candidates from the proportional representation (PR) closed lists submitted by political parties.
EC Spokesperson Narayan Prasad Bhattarai said the decision was made after a thorough review of the candidates’ details. According to him, the assessment was carried out on the basis of complaints lodged against the candidates, prevailing legal provisions on eligibility, past decisions taken by the Commission, and information provided by the concerned political parties.
In a statement, the EC said the revised list includes the removal of one candidate from the Nepali Congress (NC), one from the CPN (UML), and three candidates from the Nepal Communist Party (NCP).
The Commission reiterated that the review process is aimed at ensuring compliance with electoral laws and maintaining the integrity of the proportional representation system ahead of the upcoming polls.
