Nepal Television marks 41 years of broadcasting, reaffirms commitment as PSB

January 31, Kathmandu: Nepal Television (NTV), the country’s first and pioneering television broadcaster, has entered its 42nd year of operation. Established on January 30, 1985 (Magh 17,2041 B.S.), Nepal Television has evolved over time by adapting to changing technologies and broadcasting trends.

On the occasion of its 41st anniversary, NTV has reiterated its commitment to fulfilling its responsibility to the state while strengthening accountability and service to citizens. Founded with the goal of contributing to national development through communication, Nepal Television has, over the past 41 years, delivered news and programs with high ethical standards and professional competence, meeting public expectations.

Since its inception as a project, NTV has played a vital role as a bridge between the state and citizens. Expanding its global reach, the broadcaster now operates five channels, and it launched a separate English-language channel, NTV World, in 2025.

Embracing diversity and inclusion, all six channels reflect Nepali life, languages, culture, and traditions, while also bringing the voices of marginalized communities and remote regions into the national mainstream. Nepal Television’s role in disseminating accurate information during natural disasters and political transitions has been widely acknowledged.

NTV was officially transformed into a Public Service Broadcasting Nepal, strengthening its citizen-centric approach. With a focus on national unity, diversity, innovation, good governance, and democratic values, NTV aims to further enhance public service broadcasting.

Meanwhile, an anniversary program is being held this afternoon at the Nepal Television premises, with Vice President Ram Sahaya Prasad Yadav as the chief guest.
