NA’s LMC endorses report of Film Bill, 2081 BS

Kathmandu: The Legislative Management Committee (LMC) of the National Assembly held today at Singha Durbar has endorsed the report concerning the Film Bill, 2081 BS.

The meeting chaired by Committee President Tulasa Kumari Dahal passed the report which is anticipated to be presented to the National Assembly on Tuesday.

The report addresses several key issues, including autonomy of the Film Development Board, legal responsibilities and authorities of officials assigned during film shootings, replacement of the Film Censor Board with a Certification Committee, and the classification of films.

During the meeting, Minister for Law, Justice and Parliamentary Affairs Anil Kumar Sinha expressed confidence that amendment to 44 sections of the Act would enable the film industry to play a significant role in the advancement of the social, cultural, and entertainment sectors.

He emphasized the necessity of updating the law to enhance the dignity and timeliness of such vital sector, given the importance of Nepal’s economic, cultural, and entertainment landscapes.

Committee President Dahal underscored the potential of the film industry to significantly boost the nation’s economic growth through entertainment, expressing optimism that the report would facilitate further development and expansion of this industry.
