U.S. Embassy Nepal launches nationwide tech hackathon “Code for Impact”

Kathmandu: The U.S. Embassy in Nepal has launched a nationwide technology hackathon titled “Code for Impact: U.S.–Nepal Tech Innovation Hackathon” in partnership with Aadyanta Advisory, AmCham Nepal, and Aadyanta Fund Management.
The six-month program will involve more than 175 young innovators from all seven provinces. It aims to support students, early-career professionals, and aspiring entrepreneurs in developing technology-based solutions to local challenges. The initiative includes provincial hackathons, mentorship, seed funding, and links to incubation and investment opportunities.
The hackathon series began in Butwal on January 18–19. It will continue in Pokhara on January 22–23, followed by events in Dhangadi and Biratnagar on January 26–27. Further programs are scheduled in Janakpur on January 30–31, Surkhet on January 31–February 1, and Kathmandu on February 5–6.
Participants will focus on sectors such as education, health, agriculture, tourism, and digital commerce. They will use tools including ethical artificial intelligence and human-centered design, with support from experienced mentors and technology professionals.
Mike Harker, Public Affairs Chief at the U.S. Embassy in Nepal, said the program aims to take technology, mentorship, and opportunity to young people across the country, beyond Kathmandu. He added that the initiative reflects the strong partnership between the United States and Nepal in promoting innovation and economic growth.
The program is expected to help local ideas grow into viable businesses while strengthening technology and innovation ties between the two countries.
