Communication Ministry Holds Farewell for Outgoing Minister Jagadish Kharel

Kathmandu, Jan 19: The Ministry of Communications and Information Technology on Monday organized a farewell programme for Minister Jagadish Kharel, who resigned from his post earlier the same day.

At the event held at the Ministry premises in the evening, Officiating Secretary Udaya Rana honored outgoing Minister Kharel with a garland, khada (ceremonial scarf), and gifts, formally bidding him farewell on behalf of the Ministry and its staff.

Kharel was appointed Minister for Communications and Information Technology on September 22 last year in the interim government formed following the Gen-Z uprising of September 8 and 9, 2025. He submitted his resignation to Prime Minister Sushila Karki on Monday evening.

Addressing the farewell programme, Kharel expressed gratitude for the opportunity to serve the nation and the people as Information Minister for over four months. He said the full cooperation from the Ministry and its subordinate bodies enabled him to carry out important tasks within a limited timeframe.

“Though the tenure was brief, it offered me valuable insights into state affairs. I dedicate the experience gained here to the country and its people. My work has been transparent and should be evaluated on that basis,” he stated.

Kharel noted that his time in office was free from difficulties, describing his tenure as pleasant, result-oriented, and cordial. He also emphasized the need for joint efforts between civil servants and political leadership, saying the country cannot progress through the efforts of one side alone.

Speaking on the occasion, Officiating Secretary Rana said that despite Kharel’s lack of prior political experience, his long background in journalism helped him make notable progress and achieve significant outcomes during his short ministerial term.
