45 Days to HoR Polls: Election Code of Conduct Comes Into Effect

Kathmandu, Jan 19: With just 45 days remaining for the March 5 House of Representatives (HoR) elections, the Election Code of Conduct-2082 has officially come into force from last midnight.

Election Commission (EC) spokesperson Narayan Prasad Bhattarai stated that the EC, in a meeting convened on Sunday, decided to implement the code to ensure the polls are conducted in a free, fair, and fearless manner. The code has already been published in the Nepal Gazette.

The EC invoked its authority under Section 22 of the Election Commission Act-2073 to enforce the code of conduct, which applies to federal and provincial government ministers, government agencies and officials, constitutional bodies, local governments, bureaucrats, political parties and their affiliates, universities, media houses, and other public institutions.

The move aims to create a level playing field and maintain transparency and accountability throughout the election process.
