Norwegian Organization Hands Over Medical Simulation Robots to Health Ministry

Kathmandu, Jan 14: A Norwegian organization, Laerdal Global Health, has donated 11 medical simulation robots to Nepal’s Ministry of Health and Population to support emergency health services and training.

The human-like simulation models, known as “manikins,” were formally handed over to the Ministry’s Spokesperson and Chief of the Emergency Health Service Centre, Dr Prakash Budhathoki. Laerdal Global Health Chief Executive Officer Karoline Myklebust Linde presented the equipment on behalf of the organization.

Health Minister Dr Sudha Gautam expressed gratitude for the assistance, saying the advanced training tools would contribute to improving the quality of Nepal’s health services. She recalled that emergency services and medical equipment had been damaged during the recent Gen Z movement and stressed the importance of continued cooperation between Nepal and Norway in the health sector.

Norwegian Ambassador to Nepal Dagny Mjøs said Norway remains committed to extending further emergency assistance to Nepal when needed.

According to Dr Budhathoki, all 11 robots were provided free of cost. Designed to simulate real human responses in emergency situations, the manikins will help health professionals practice and improve life-saving treatment techniques. Of the total, nine are adult-sized models and two are smaller in size.

The simulation robots will be distributed to all seven provinces and three medical training centres across the country.
