All-Party Meeting Urges Social Harmony in Birgunj
Birgunj (Parsa), Jan 6: Representatives of district-based political parties have called on the public to uphold social harmony in Birgunj Metropolitan City, amid recent tensions linked to social and religious issues.
The all-party meeting, convened by the District Administration Office, Parsa, emphasized dialogue and collective action as key to resolving conflicts. Ram Narayan Kurmi, acting President of Nepali Congress Parsa, stressed that “inciting disputes in society benefits no one” and urged communities to work together to strengthen the social goodwill that has prevailed for centuries while ensuring peace and security.
Hari Panta of the Rastriya Swatantra Party highlighted the role of Hindu and Muslim religious leaders in resolving the matter through dialogue and finding lasting solutions, noting the urgency for all stakeholders to address recurring disputes in Birgunj over the past two to four years.
Bal Gopal Thapa, Chair of CPN (Unified Socialist) Parsa, suggested that recent conflicts may be influenced by the tendency to mimic disputes seen elsewhere. Youth leader Tabrej Ahmad of the Janata Samajbadi Party added that incidents outside the country should not trigger protests locally and called on everyone to contribute constructively to making Birgunj a zone of peace.
Chief District Officer Bhola Dahal confirmed that the district administration is working closely with all relevant bodies to maintain social harmony, emphasizing that religious or social conflicts serve no one’s interest.
