Two youths missing after being swept away by Trishuli River

January 4, Kathmandu: Two young men went missing after being swept away by the Trishuli River while bathing at Kuringhat, Ichchhakamana Rural Municipality–4, located on the Gorkha–Chitwan border, on Saturday evening.
The incident occurred near the Jholunge Bridge when the two entered the river and were suddenly carried away by the strong current.
The missing youths have been identified as 21-year-old Shankar Chaudhary of Geruwa Rural Municipality–2, Bansara, Bardiya, and 22-year-old Saurabh Tharu of Rajapur Municipality, Bardiya. Police said both were working as labourers at the Trishuli Hydropower Project in Gandaki Rural Municipality–1, Gorkha.
Following the incident, a special search and rescue team, including divers from the Armed Police Force Disaster Management Training School, Kuringhat, was deployed. Although searches were conducted along the riverbanks on Saturday evening, the missing youths have not yet been located.
The Armed Police Force said that due to the strong river current, search operations will continue from Sunday morning with additional personnel and equipment.
Local authorities have urged the public to exercise caution while bathing in rivers and to avoid high-risk areas. The incident has left local residents and fellow workers at the hydropower project in shock.
