Kathmandu Records Lowest Temperature of the Year; Jumla Hits -4.5°C
Kathmandu, Dec 30: Kathmandu experienced its coldest day of the year today, with the minimum temperature dropping to 4.8°C, the Department of Hydrology and Meteorology reported. This surpasses the previous low of 4.9°C recorded on December 20.
Information Officer Dinkar Kayastha said that mist, fog, and cold wave conditions continue across the Tarai region, while some Himalayan areas have received snowfall. Jumla recorded a chilling -4.5°C today.
A late-night weather bulletin from the department warned that mist and fog are expected to persist in most Tarai areas on Wednesday, while hilly and mountainous regions—including Karnali and Sudurpaschim Provinces—will experience partly cloudy skies.
The department also forecasted the possibility of light rain and snowfall in high-hill and mountainous areas of Koshi, Gandaki, and Karnali Provinces. Authorities have urged residents to take necessary precautions as cold weather is expected to continue into January 1.
