Sudurpashchim Provincial Assembly to Reconvene on December 26
Sudurpashchim, Dec 22 — The Sudurpashchim Provincial Assembly is set to resume its session on December 26 after a prolonged suspension, Speaker Bhim Bahadur Bhandari announced on Sunday.
The decision was made during a meeting of the Provincial Assembly’s Rules of Procedure Advisory Committee, where Speaker Bhandari confirmed the date for the long-delayed assembly meeting.
The budget session of the current assembly was last held on August 21. Since then, regular proceedings have remained stalled following incidents of arson and vandalism at the Provincial Assembly building during the Gen-Z movement on September 9.
Due to the damage caused by the unrest, assembly meetings could not be conducted, leading to the suspension of discussions on several important bills. The destruction is estimated to have caused losses of around Rs 80 million, affecting the Provincial Assembly Secretariat, offices of parliamentary parties, and the main parliament building.
With the announcement of the new session date, lawmakers are expected to resume legislative business that had been interrupted for months.
